7 Layer Taco Dip

Equipment

  • 8 6- to 8- ounce mason jars

Ingredients
  

Ground Beef

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

OR Refried Beans

  • 1 can refried beans 16 oz.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Dip

  • 4 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • 1 cup chunky salsa or pico de gallo
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese
  • 1/4 cup black olives
  • 2 Roma tomatoes diced
  • 2-3 green onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions
 

To Make Ground Beef

  • Brown both sides of ground beef in a pan. Drain fat if needed. Break up ground beef with a wooden spoon and season with chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, Kosher salt and black pepper. Cook until no longer pink. Set aside to cool.

To Make Beans

  • In a bowl mix together refried beans, chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, Kosher salt and black pepper.

Dip

  • Combine the sour cream and cream cheese in a separate bowl.
  • Add a heaping spoonful of ground beef or beans to the bottom of your individual cups.
  • Add a spoonful of the sour cream mixture on top of the ground beef/beans, followed by a heaping spoonful of guacamole, then salsa.
  • Add a layer of cheese and top with a layer of tomatoes and black olives. Garnish with cilantro and green onions.

Notes

  • Short on time? Use pre-made taco meat and canned refried beans.
  • Let kids customize their own dips. Give everyone a jar or glass to assemble their own dip. Double-dip away!
  • Swap out tortilla chips with carrot and celery sticks for dipping.
  • The recipe can also be made in a 9×13-inch dish
  • If you love ground beef and refried beans, combine the two together to make the first layer.
  • Mix some fresh lime juice with your guacamole to help prevent it from browning.
